Are dentures suitable for you?
If you are looking for an immediate solution to your missing teeth, dentures are your best option. These are dental prosthetic devices that replace missing teeth and their surrounding soft tissues. The artificial teeth are made from composite resin or porcelain materials, while the gum base is made from acrylic resin. Most patients prefer porcelain materials for their artificial teeth since they closely match the natural look of the teeth.

What type of dentures do you need?
Complete dentures
You need complete dentures when most of your upper or lower teeth need replacement. Full arch dentures are more stable and durable when paired with All-on-Four implants. Before placing dentures, the remaining unhealthy teeth are extracted first. Then, digital impressions of the mouth are taken as basis in making dentures. Two types of complete dentures:
- Conventional dentures are placed after eight to 12 weeks from tooth extraction to make sure the gums have completely healed. After the healing period, these conventional dentures are positioned into the mouth for fitting. If you opt for fixed dentures, these will be anchored to the implants.
- Immediate dentures are fabricated days ahead before tooth removal and are positioned right after the extraction. This type is considered your temporary teeth while your gums are still healing. Once your bone structure and gums heal in about 12 weeks or less, they also shrink. Hence, you need to visit your dentist again to reline your dentures so they snugly fit into your teeth and gums again.
Partial dentures
Partial plate dentures are ideal for patients who only lost a single or few teeth. Removable partial dentures are held by a framework that’s made from nylon polymers or chrome cobalt. Similar to complete dentures, you also have the option to anchor partial dentures to implants for more stability.
How are dentures made?
Dentures are crafted in a dental laboratory. After the dentist removes your tooth, he takes a digital impression of your mouth and makes a model of your teeth. Then, he sends the model to the laboratory technician who will craft your dentures. In two weeks, the finished product is sent back to the dental clinic. Your dentist mounts the dentures on your gums and he ensures that they fit perfectly.
Adjustment period
It’s normal for your teeth and gums to adjust to the new dental appliance within the first two weeks. Your gums might sore and you may notice an increase of saliva flow during this period. After that, you will be more comfortable wearing and removing your dentures.

Cost of dentures
The cost of full and partial dentures starts at $300 per plate and a maximum of $10,000 for a set. On one hand, dentures supported by implants cost higher due to the complexity of the dental procedure, professional fees, and additional materials needed.
Some dental insurance providers cover dentures’ cost up to 50%. Contact your insurance provider to check how much they cover for this restorative treatment. At Wortley Road Dental, we also offer flexible payment options because we want you to live the quality of life you deserve. Indeed, having dentures is a good investment for you to improve your lifestyle and your oral health.
