The Root Canal Treatment Procedure

1. Diagnosis and anesthesia
The procedure starts with an examination and X-rays to assess tooth damage. Local anesthesia numbs the tooth and surrounding area. -
2. Access and pulp removal
An access opening is made in the tooth crown. The infected pulp is carefully removed from the canals. -
3. Cleaning and shaping
The canals are cleaned and shaped to prepare for filling. An antimicrobial solution is used to flush out remaining bacteria. -
4. Filling and restoration
The canals are filled with gutta-percha to seal them. A temporary filling is placed until a permanent crown is fitted.

Dentist
Dr. Khaled Abdel-Gawad, known as “Dr. Kal,” graduated from The Schulich School of Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in 2010. He specializes in General Dentistry with a particular focus on surgical extractions, including complex wisdom teeth removal under Moderate Conscious Sedation. Dr. Kal also has expertise in restorative dentistry, performing procedures such as fillings, crowns, and bridges. Additionally, he is certified in providing Invisalign treatments and dental implants.

Dr. Ali, from London, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario with an honors degree in immunology and microbiology in 1997. Recognized as a top student in Endodontics, he joined Southdale Dental Office, first as an associate and later as the practice owner. Dr. Ali enjoys all aspects of dentistry, particularly root canal therapy, aimed at preserving patients’ teeth. He stays updated through ongoing education and is a member of the London District Dental Society, London Dental Exchange Study Club, and Ontario Dental Association.
